BEHIND THE SCENES

CHAIRMAN'S BLOG 11th September 2025

It has been a very busy summer season for our volunteers with lots of visitors coming in to see our Collection as well as visiting the Tourist Information Centre and shop.   Holidaymakers have been blessed with really good weather for being on the beach, which swelled our numbers on our six seashore safaris.   It has just started to slow down now that the schools have re-opened, but there are still lots of walkers and our usual September visitors around. It has been an exciting couple of months for the museum with the new website up and running - we have had lots of compliments, and our thanks go to our website designer for all his hard work. And we have also had a couple of additions to our Collections - see the pictures on the site.  One is the beautiful Millenium edition Combe Martin Tea Set, generously loaned to us by Nicky Tossell and her sister Beverly in memory of their parents. BEHIND THE SCENES... I thought I would use my first blog on our fabulous new website as a way to take you behind the scenes.   So much work goes on behind the scenes to keep a museum such as ours up and running and it just wouldn't be open at all if it wasn't for our amazing team of volunteers. We have had an interesting year since April 2024 when we started the transition to a totally volunteer-led organisation. MEET THE TEAMS: There are many different teams who all have specific roles to play - collections, events/fundraising, finances, admin, shop sales, tourist information point. The COLLECTIONS TEAM of 3 is headed by Margaret Coward, along with Brian and Julie.  They have their own blog on this website, so you can always keep up with what they are doing.  They perform the vital work of maintaining the collection in the right condition, and are always on the lookout for visiting insects who might want to come and live with us!  Our collection shows what a v...
